Help us Help Others

My goal as a business owner has always been to give back to the community - here are a few of the local and nationwide charities that The Knitting Nest is currently helping!

It's time to begin work on the the 2015 Winter games! The scarves can be any pattern you choose - they can be knitted or crocheted, they need to be any shade of Blue and Green, 54-60 inches long and about 6 inches wide.  Most importantly: they need to be washable.

We are going to have three different collection dates so we can keep a handle on donations a little bit better this time around (December 2014 was CRAZY!) The first date will be April 1st, the second date will be August 1st, and the last date December 31st.

We will be serving as a collection spot for several groups in south Austin - Please join us and help us spread the word. You can read more about the scarf project on The Texas Special Olympics Website

Saint Louise House provides affordable housing and essential services to mothers and children experiencing homelessness in Central Texas. The Knitting Nest is very happy to help with this group in Austin in any way we can - we always collect hand knit and crocheted washcloths for the Welcome Baskets that are created for new families setting up their first households.

At Project Linus, a non-profit organization, we provide homemade blankets to children in need. Our blankets are lovingly made by adults and children from all walks of life and many different sources. The Knitting Nest is proud to be a supporter and Drop-Off location in Austin. The Crochet Guild of Austin regularly makes flannel receiving blankets with crocheted edges that are collected by Project Linus and delivered to Dell Children's Hospital for the babies in the NICU.

We need plain blankets donated (they are available at Target, Walmart, Carters,)and we also need crocheters to pick up one of these blankets to take home and work on the edges. The staff at Dell NICU say these blankets help in so may ways - they are very important to the babies, the families AND the staff!!
