Help us Help Others

My goal as a business owner has always been to give back to the community - here are a few of the local and nationwide charities that The Knitting Nest is currently helping!

Saint Louise House provides affordable housing and essential services to mothers and children experiencing homelessness in Central Texas. The Knitting Nest is very happy to help with this group in Austin in any way we can - we always collect hand knit and crocheted washcloths for the households.

In May - we are having a Dishcloth Contest! Come in and get some cotton yarn and make some for the contest. We will have winners in the following categories: Prettiest, Most Unusual, and Most "Kitschy" or Vintage.  Judges will be Volunteer coordinator from Saint Louise House Megan Heredia ad Assistant Manager of Reel Popcorn, Jennifer Easley!  All the dischloths will be donated to Saint Louise House for the new apartments.

The Texas chapter of the Special Olympics has asked The Knitting Nest to help them collect 3000 scarves by December 31st! The scarves can be any pattern you choose - they need to be Red and Black, 54-60 inches long and about 6 inches wide.  Most importantly: they need to be washable. We will be serving as a collection spot for several groups in south Austin - Please join us and help us spread the word.

Autism Speaks has grown into the nation's largest autism science and advocacy organization, dedicated to funding research into the causes, prevention, treatments and a cure for autism; increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorders; and advocating for the needs of individuals with autism and their families.

At Project Linus, a non-profit organization, we provide homemade blankets to children in need. Our blankets are lovingly made by adults and children from all walks of life and many different sources. The Knitting Nest is proud to be a supporter and Drop-Off location in Austin. The Crochet Guild of Austin regularly makes flannel receiving blankets with crocheted edges that are collected by Project Linus and delivered to Dell Children's Hospital for the babies in the NICU.
